International Education (Foreign Languages) College Hosted the 8th “English Reader” Contest

On the afternoon of December 5th, theInternational Education (Foreign Languages)Collegeof Kaifeng University held the 8th "English Reader—I am a Reader" Final Competition. Wang Yanling from the Supervision Office of Kaifeng University, Lu Xiaoning from the China Representative Office of the University of Canberra in Australia, and Jiang Dashan, the Dean ofInternational Education(Foreign Languages)College, attended the competition. Vice Dean Huang Yiqin, foreign teachers Roopa and Wang Shuai, as well as representativeteachersof thecollege arejudges.

After the preliminary round, a total oftwenty-twocontestants advanced to the final. Additionally,teninvited contestants from thecollege ofCivil Engineering and Architecture, Materials,Chemical Engineering, Information Engineering, Digital Economics and Trade, and Culture and Tourism participated in the competition. The theme of this competition was "Poetry and Beauty," with the content being English translations of Song Dynastypoetry. The contestants' recitations were characterized by standard pronunciation and rich emotion, fully showcasing the profound connotations and beautiful rhythm of the poetry. The judges scored the contestants based on criteria such as pronunciation and intonation, language skills, emotional expression, and on-site performance, andfinally awardedthreefirst-prizewinners,sevensecond-prizeswinners, andtenthird prizewinners.

Dean Jiang Dashan summarized the competition, highlighting the contestants' careful preparation and impressive performances, which fully demonstrated the youthful spirit ofcontemporary college students. He congratulated all contestants on their achievements and encouraged them to continue their passion for English and improve their application skills in future studies and life. Foreign teachers Roopa and Wang Shuai also provided brilliant comments respectively.

The successful hosting of this "English Reader" competition not only provided students with a platform to showcase and enhance themselves but also improved their appreciation and learning interest in traditional Chinese poetry and English poetry, achieving the goal of promoting learning through competition.
