On the afternoon of May 29, 2025, the School of International Education (School of Foreign Languages) held a special lecture for foreign teachers in the lecture hall on the first floor of Building 5. Titled "Following the Yellow Brick Road: A Strange Way to Develop a Career," the lecture was chaired by Dr. Jiang Dashan, Dean of the School, and delivered by Dr. Chris Davies, a foreign teacher from the University of Canberra, Australia. All faculty members of the school attended the lecture.
During the lecture, Dr. Davies vividly shared his academic and professional growth journey, unreservedly presenting profound insights from years of teaching experience and a series of practical and effective teaching methods. He emphasized that teachers should fully enjoy teaching, cleverly using humorous examples to energize classroom atmosphere and make classes dynamic. He also stressed that teachers should have the courage to innovate, dare to try new teaching concepts and methods—such as inviting students to actively participate in interactions—but must maintain proper balance to avoid embarrassing students.
In the subsequent Q&A session, faculty members of the school engaged in a friendly and in-depth discussion with Dr. Davies. The attending teachers unanimously expressed that they had gained abundantly, not only acquiring valuable teaching experience and inspiration but also forming new ideas and understandings for improving their teaching standards.
This lecture provided a good learning and communication platform for Chinese and foreign teachers, taking a solid step toward promoting the improvement of teaching standards and advancing internationalized teaching reform in the school.
