In order tocarry forward traditional Chinese culture, show the style of modern college students, let students be more innovative and surpassing, and enrich students’ professional skills and lives, theInternational Education (Foreign Languages ) Collegeorganizedavideo Contestthemed“Stories of Kaifeng Retold in English”, providinga stage for students to show their talents, improve oral English skills and communication skills.
In the contest, students introduce theirfavorite scenic spot of Kaifeng, such as Millennium City Park,The Song Dynasty Of Kungfu City Park,Hanyuan Park and so on. The video should last three to five minutes to tell the story of Kaifeng and spread the unique beauty of Chinese culture. The contest included two phases:Preliminary and final. For the preliminary contest, English teachers from each class selected the best works to advance to the final round. Teachers could instruct the video-shooting and students could improve the videos to take part in the final contest. The judges of the final contest was made up of professional college teachers. According to the judges’ votes, two groups of first prizewinners, four groups of second prizewinnersand six groups of third prizewinners are awarded.
Studentsvividlyexpressed historical backgrounds, cultural features and travel experiencefromtheir own perspectives in the contest. Every contestant showed their own language skill and creation, and also their video-making skill and explaining skill. This contest not only improves students’ oral English, but also deepens students’ understanding and love of Chinese traditional culture. It also promotes the international dissemination of China’s excellent traditionalculture.
