On the afternoon of September 26,theInternational Education (Foreign Languages) College successfully held the "Stories of Henan Retold in English" speech contest in the 6th-floor lecture hall of Building 5. Attending the event were Cheng Xin, Party Secretary oftheInternational Education (Foreign Languages) College, Jiang Dashan, Dean, Qin Xinfeng, Deputy Party Secretary, and Huang Yiqin, Vice Dean. Foreign teacher Roopa and several faculty members served as judgesfor the competition.


The contest was part of thecollege's series of activities celebrating the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. A total of 17 participants from the classes of 2022 and 2023 took part in the competition. Each contestantselectedtheir own topic, covering new developments in Henan's politics, economy, culture, society, and ecology, and delivered a 2-3 minute speech. The competition awarded two first prizes, four second prizes, six third prizes, and five excellence awards. Foreign teacher Roopa provided insightful comments on the performances, andcollegeleaders presented certificates to the award-winning students. The first and second-place winners of this contest will advance to the 4th Henan Provincial Foreign LanguagesSpeech Contest.

Through this "Stories of Henan Retold in English" speech contest, students not only became storytellers and ambassadors of Henan, showcasing the province’s image in the new era, but also sparked interest and enthusiasm for learning English, thereby improving their spoken English skills.
